| CURNOCK STREET ESTATE TENANTS' AND RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION
Dear Residents
Curnock Street Estate TRA is holding its AGM on 26 April 2012 at which a new committee will be elected. The TRA is run by a democratically elected committee made up of council tenants and resident leaseholders which is recognised and supported through Camden's Housing and Adult Social Care Department.
The TRA on Curnock Street Estate has been active for many years through joint tenants' and residents' groups in the borough which look at a variety of issues involving housing and other aspects of life within Camden including:
Camden Town District Management Committee
This committee is made up of councillors, council officers and residents' reps. It meets quarterly to discuss a range of issues specifically to do with housing and includes comment and feedback into reports to be presented for decisions by councillors. Curnock Street Estate TRA has taken an active part in this discussion on behalf of its residents and has also secured funding through the DMC to carry out small projects to improve life and the environment on the estate.
St Pancras and Somerstown Safer Neighbourhood Team
The Safer Neighbourhood Team is a ward-based police team of police officers and community support officers dedicated to tackling day-to-day crime. It has a panel of members from a wide range of community groups and also works closely with Camden officers and our ward councillors. Curnock Street Estate TRA has had a rep on this panel for several years and has helped to prioritise the goals for the team. For some time Curnock Street Estate was given a high priority for the Safer Neighbourhood Team when we experienced problems of non-resident youths coming onto the estate and taking over the play areas. We are not currently a high priority but do have regular patrols from the team come through the estate.
It is essential that Curnock Street Estate TRA continues to have & voice in matters that affect us all as residents. Our committee has declined in numbers in recent years, so I am asking that you take some time to consider standing at this next election. We would particularly like to welcome young residents and council tenants who have been under-represented in the past. I you would like to discuss this further please feel free to contact me. Elected positions on the committee can be shared but has a single vote for that position.
Nominations will be taken at the election and the ballot will be by show of hands.
Yours sincerely
Susan Gorrie -TRA Chair

I would like to voice my opinion regarding the TRA's statements on their leaflet:
STATEMENT 1: It is essential that Curnock Street Estate TRA continues to have & voice in matters that affect us all, as residents.
This is true but how does the TRA will achieve this if they do not take any action against major problems such as lack of hot water for four months? They were completely absent from the meeting with the Camden New Journal, they did not support the online petition, they never sent any reply to residents even if they have been copied to all of our emails.
STATEMENT 2: Our committee has declined in numbers in recent years, so I am asking that you take some time to consider standing at this next election.
What has the TRA done to engage more people? They do not have any methods for interacting/communicating with the residents. Our emails never answered and from my personal experience with the TRA I have found that all the information that they have is considered confidential and the only way to get any information (if any) from them is to go to their very infrequent meetings.
When was the last time you heard anything about their meeting with the various Council bodies or the Safe Neighbourhood?
STATEMENT 3: We would particularly like to welcome young residents and council tenants who have been under-represented in the past.
The question is how will they achieve that? Young people use the internet, emails and online communication most of the time.
They have to allow the young people to have a voice by different ways of communications and engagements.
STATEMENT 4: I you would like to discuss this further please feel free to contact me.
I have tried many times to contact Susan Gorrie and the TRA regarding the issue with the hot water, for organising a meeting, etc. I have never received any response or acknowledgement even if she now states that they represent every resident and she states in her leaflet: "feel free to contact me".
