Freedom of Information Act 2000

Thank you for your request for information, received on 22 February 2012. You requested:

1) Is there a huge demand for hot water? If yes,
a) How big is that demand? Twice the capacity of the boiler's capabilities? WHY?

The demand for hot water is as expected of an Estate of this size and the number of dwellings. The demand will have been calculated from the relevant CIBSE guidelines at the time of installation. We can confirm that it is not twice the capacity of the boiler’s capabilities.

2) Can pumps inside the properties contribute to the low pressure of the hot water? If yes, why does Camden Council allow those pumps?

Pumps inside the properties do not contribute to the low pressure of the hot water.

3) Could you please let us know why you decided to replace the pumps now and not earlier? Please have in mind that many pumps have been already replaced or refurbished after we had suffered from noise problems for many months.

The replacement of the pumps is required to balance the system due to the alterations we have recommended.

4) Which pumps and how many pumps will be replaced? Primary pumps, pump 2, etc?

The hot water primary and secondary pumps will be replaced.

NOTE: The primary pump 1 was overhauled on 21st September 2011!!!

5) Will the new pumps create more noise? If yes, how will you reduce the noise? if not, are they complete silent?

The pumps are not completely silent but will not create more noise.

6) How much will the new works cost us?

We have a budget for these works of £35,000, but there will be no charge to residents.

7) Have the residents been consulted about those works and their cost? Do we have any say on this or do you have the right to spend our money at will?

The Council has a responsibility, via our partners, to undertake works that maintain the service, and are obliged in certain circumstances to spend the allocated budget to undertake this responsibility.
